Scrap Inspections, Certified to Buyer and Seller
A scrap cargo is bought on its grade and its weight. i4Survey inspects the scrap, grades it as HMS 1, HMS 2, shredded, bonus or another grade, determines the quantity, and certifies the result to both buyer and seller.
We also screen scrap for explosive items, radioactivity and impurities, and issue non-explosive and non-radioactivity certificates on-site.

Common Questions
- Which scrap grades do you inspect?
- HMS 1, HMS 2, shredded, bonus and other grades. In mixed cargoes we report the share of each grade, for example HMS 1/2 80:20.
- Who gets the certificate?
- Both buyer and seller. We certify the grade and the quantity to both parties, so they settle on the same figures.
- Do you check scrap for explosives and radioactivity?
- Yes. We screen the cargo for explosive items, measure radioactivity, and issue non-explosive and non-radioactivity certificates on-site.
- How do you determine the quantity?
- By draft survey on the vessel, or by weighbridge.
- Where do you inspect scrap?
- At every Turkish port, from Iskenderun to Istanbul, and at the ports we cover from our hubs in Europe, North Africa and the Far East.
- Are you independent?
- Yes. We have no ties to shipowners, traders or insurers. Our reports reflect what we find, not what any party wants to hear.
